4th Annual Patient Appreciation Magic Game Recap

One of our favorite traditions returned this year as we hosted our 4th Annual Patient Appreciation Magic Game, welcoming over 40 ACS families for an evening of fun, connection, and basketball.

This event was created as a way to thank the incredible families who trust us with their care. It’s also an opportunity for families to enjoy a night out together, cheering on the Magic, spending time with one another, and simply enjoying the moment. Seeing so many families come together, laugh, and make memories is what makes this event so special to us each year.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make the night unforgettable. We are already looking forward to next year’s game!

David exemplifies what it means to provide compassionate, patient-centered care!

We are proud to recognize David as our February Caregiver of the Month!

Based in our Orlando region, David has been a valued member of our team since 2023. When his patient transitioned to living independently—resulting in a commute that extended to an hour and a half—David continued to show up with the same unwavering commitment and positivity.

He consistently goes above and beyond, remaining supportive, compassionate, and accommodating, always putting his patient’s needs and comfort first. Beyond providing excellent clinical care, David has built a meaningful connection with his patient, becoming not only a trusted caregiver but also a true friend.

His willingness to make personal sacrifices and maintain such a high level of care truly reflects the heart of nursing and we are incredibly grateful to have him on our team.

Shoutout to our February Caregiver of the Month Nominees!

Matchmaking Moment…

Meet Yanaisy, one of our compassionate caregivers who is committed to supporting those she serves. She is passionate about making a positive difference in her patients’ lives, helping them feel safe, supported, and comfortable while promoting independence. She enjoys reading about health and wellness, spending time with her daughter, and continuing to grow in her career.

She brings a unique and impressive background! She originally trained as a physician specializing in ophthalmology in Cuba, she now works as a nurse after earning her RN in the U.S. this year. Her experience includes home health care, medication management, wound care, trach and G-tube care, and supporting patients with chronic conditions. Families can expect compassionate, attentive, and high-quality care from her.

Yanaisy is currently looking for 2–3 night shifts between Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. She’s based in Clermont, but is open to traveling to the Orlando region for the right patient. She is comfortable with gtube, trach, and ventilator care.

If you’d like to set up a meet and greet with Yanaisy, please reach out and we’d be happy to get one set up for you!

Medication Safety

Because private duty nurses often work independently in the home, safe medication practice depends not only on correct administration, but also on recognizing changes quickly, keeping the medication list current, and communicating promptly with the family, prescriber, clinical supervisor, and office. Taking added steps to verify that the correct medication is given to the correct patient will reduce adverse drug events.

Here are core medication principles. Verify the right patient. Use current medication orders. Compare the order to the medication label, physician order, and medication profile in the family portal in Axxess. If you notice any differences or discrepancies, contact the Clinical Supervisor or the Physician for clarification. Verify right medication, dose, route, time, reason, documentation and response. It’s important to practice these steps each time medication is given to prevent issues.

A parent participating in the AMFC program cannot administer Schedule II-IV medications. Please contact your Clinical Supervisor to assist with developing a plan to ensure your child is safe when participating in this program.

Communication is one of the most important aspects of medical care. You should update your child’s Clinical Supervisor for the following reasons: when there are changes to EVERY medication prescribed to your child, if a PRN medication is given, medication changes including changes in the dose, frequency or route, medication side effects including ineffective therapy, and the need for the medication profile to be updated. Document every medication ordered on their shift. If the medication is unavailable or not given, they must document it and notify the Clinical Supervisor.

How common is it to make a medication error? Millions of Americans misunderstand prescription labels. One study has found that there are more than 53 different ways to write, “take two tablets twice a day,” which can lead to confusion.

Medication errors in the home are a well-described safety concern in pediatrics. With your help, we can work together to ensure that the above principles are followed and that our patients receive the best quality of life possible.
